Stratford Station

Stratford station is a large multilevel railway station in Stratford, east London. The station is served by National Rail services operated by Greater Anglia, London Overground and c2c, by London Underground Central and Jubilee lines, and by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). The station served as a key arrival point for the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. The mainline station, in terms of arrivals and departures, handles over 21 million passengers a year, making Stratford the thirteenth busiest station in London and the twentieth busiest within the UK.

Xact Powers’s factory trained, highly skilled field-service engineer’s ability to deliver challenging, high quality projects is attributed to the experience drawn from the industry over the years. Our highly specialist skills along with our highly regarded reputation within the power supply sector was influential in our clients, AEG power solutions awarding Xact Power with the task of completing the UPS Installation at Stratford Station in London. This project was of critical importance to Network Rail and it was imperative that the work was of a high standard and crucially on time as this station is a major hub for the city as the London 2012 Olympics were only weeks away.

The task required intelligent project management as the difficulties of working in such a busy station came apparent. The project manager delegated two teams which rotated the work throughout the station. Due to our waste carriers license from the environmental agency, we had one team, removing all redundant batteries from site and another team specializing in the installation of the UPS systems. The work took place throughout the station in the early hours of the morning as pedestrian traffic was too heavy during the day. This gave us many challenging problems but with our innovative and novel approaches to project management, the work ran smoothly and crucially for Network Rail, on time for the London 2012 Olympics.

Our comprehensive load bank tests and commissioning procedures and regular service of the UPS ensures the ongoing integrity of the critical power protection system.

Xact Power Ltd employees are Health and Safety conscious at all times, holding CCNCG safety passports awarded by the British Safety Services which is reflected in our zero incident report during our time on the Stratford Station Project. After sales service is just as important to us as the installation itself.

James Mckeever, Project Manager commented:

“Xact Power were delighted to deliver our service to Network Rail once more. Our great reputation for high quality services and to work within tight time constraints were shown here again.”
