Reading Station is undergoing a transformation programme as part of the wider £850m Reading Improvement scheme. Reading is the second biggest train station outside London and is one of the busiest parts of the country’s rail network and its complicated track layout constricts the number of trains that can run. Reading is a major junction on the National Rail network and the railway station is a major interchange as well as serving substantial originating and terminating traffic.

AEG power solutions awarded Xact Power with the contract to install the UPS systems throughout Reading Station. As the station was being redeveloped, this made it challenging due to the pedestrian traffic through the station. Careful project management and vast experience working in Railway stations made us the perfect outfit to complete the work.

Alongside AEG, the world’s leading Power Solutions Company, we tailor made battery racks and breakers for this project giving the most reliable and cost-effective solution for power protection. Xact power has a very good relationship with many of the leading Uninterruptible Power Supply manufacturer’s in the UK and around the world helping us to provide the best service to our customers. We are renowned for our extremely professional manner and working to rigorously high standards.

The installation of the UPS systems was completed by our highly skilled, factory trained engineers whose impeccable reliability and efficiency enabled the project to be completed before scheduled. This helped Network Rail reduce costs which could be distributed elsewhere.

James Mckeever, Project Manager commented:

“Our vast experience in UPS installation helped us achieve our aims of the project on time and on budget and as we design and manufacture all systems in house, this gives us the flexibility to adapt to on-site changes”
