The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall in South Kensington London. It is best known for holding the BBC proms and events such as classical concerts, rock and pop, ballet and opera and sports award ceremonies. It has a capacity of up to 5,272 seats. The Royal Albert Hall is one of the world’s most famous stages. Opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, the Hall is a registered charity which receives no public funding and it has become one of the UK’s most treasured and distinctive buildings.
AEG Power solutions entrusted xact power with the responsibility to install the UPS at the Royal Albert Hall due to failure of the existing UPS and electrical infrastructure. AEG assigned the highly specialised skills of our factory trained, field service engineers and the reliability they show in these types of projects. The Work was of critical importance on this project due to the unprotected system at the Royal Albert Hall. It needed to be installed, tested and commissioned in an incredibly short period of time which added pressure, but due to the experience of our UPS engineers; the project was completed on time for which the staff at Royal Albert Hall were very grateful.
Xact power were responsible for installing an external bypass switch, a new battery isolator and circuit breaker, a modular UPS and battery rack along with moving existing infrastructure in the server room of the Royal Albert Hall. The installation of the live electrical equipment had only been allocated a window of 3 hours by the I.T department at their least busy time due to constraints of the Royal Albert Hall.
A site survey was provided to see exactly what had to be carried out in the server room, the space we had to work in and to measure existing electrical equipment to evaluate the materials needed for the project, to complete the installation in the time window granted in a safe, cost effective and professional manner.
Xact power had to prep all the equipment beforehand and between the hours of 2:30am and 5:30am, installed, tested and commissioned the UPS. This was cleverly project managed due to the timings involved. Management included Regular status updates for client reference, management of technical and support products and on-site coordination of deliveries and installations.
“The Directors at the Hall pass on their sincere thanks for your efforts. It was a business critical fix and, despite the incredibly short window of opportunity, you achieved it and achieved a very professional standard of installation. We are impressed”
